Echizen Ryoma is a middle-school tennis prodigy. His father, a famed pro player, encourages him to join the same team he himself attended when he was in school. In the famed courts of Seishun Gakuen, Ryoma tests his skill and mettle against an entire host of friends and rivals.
Okay, I know this is a series about
tennis. And that these boys are supposed to be 14- or 15-year olds. Does that stop me from indulging in beautiful artwork produced by talented Japanese amateur artists who think these boys are involved romantically? NO.
Tenipuri appeals to me because of the characters; the tennis moves themselves are closer to Dragonball than Wimbledon. I can emphathize with the feelings of trying your best, and succeeding or failing in the quest. Each of the characters in this series has their own quirky way of dealing with the life, and where the anime doesn't supply, I indulge in doujinshi.
My favorite characters are Kamio, Oshitari, Shinji (and before them, Momoshiro and Kaidoh). I cheer wildly for the het pairing of Kamio/An, thus making me a true anomaly in this fandom.
