TRC Anime: Truth and Theory
I wrote this piece prior to the announcement of the Tsubasa anime in issue 1 of Shonen Magazine. I'll be updating it periodically to see how much my guesses match up to reality.

With all the rumors lately of a possible Tsubasa anime, I've decided to whip up my wishlist about various aspects of the anime that I'd want to happen. I highly doubt that all, if any, of these will actually come to fruition, but hey, it's always nice to dream.

Seiyuu

Sakura - TANGE Sakura
Syaoran - KUMAI Motoko
Nobody but the original seiyuu for Syaoran and Sakura would suffice. Now that the characters are also older, it will also give the seiyuu an opportunity to develop dimensions of their personalities that they wouldn't have been able to explore in the original CCS series.

Fai - SAIGA Mitsuki
Though I'm not overly fond of this seiyuu, I think she will be the best to portray Fai. She's played roles of other "femme-y" males (like Okita in Peacemaker Kurogane, Wolfram in Kyou Kara Maou) and as much as I hate to stereotype Fai as being of that ilk, Saiga-san has the perfect teasing, lilting voice to fit him.

Kurogane - NAKAI Kazuya
HA! This was a no-brainer. Nobody can play Kurogane, the ill-tempered ninja with the heart of gold, like Nakai. Seriously, just look at his resume: Zoro from One Piece, Mugen from Samurai Champloo -- they're all Kurogane-types. Plus, Nakai already has the yelling down pat; it'll come in helpful in the parts where Kuro has to scream at that fuzzy Mokona.

Production

THEORY: I'm thinking that most people would want Madhouse (the same studio that produced Card Captor Sakura and the X TV series) to work on Tsubasa as well. As much as I loved their work on those two other CLAMP shows, I feel that Madhouse just wouldn't fit this time around. I was very disappointed with Madhouse's work in Tenjo Tenge, a shonen series of the same caliber as Tsubasa, and cringe at the thought of seeing half-ass, sloppy animation for it. So, my vote for the production studio to handle Tsubasa is Studio Bones -- who've totally impressed me with their latest work in Fullmetal Alchemist. If they can do with Arakawa's work, I'm sure they can do a lot more with CLAMP's.

TRUTH: According to the CLAMP Works site, Bee-Train is slated to work on the Tsubasa anime. Personally, I'm not too familiar with their work but if CLAMP thinks they're good, then I'm sure they are.

Agree? Disagree? If you have your own concept of the Tsubasa anime that you'd like to share, send it to me at tsubasa @ tokyojupiter.com
