Kudan are spirits that exist in the Republic of Hanshin. They're the gods of the country, numbering as many as there are different things and happenings (approximately 8 million). Everyone in the country is haunted by a kudan, and sometimes, even people who just visit Hanshin for a temporary time could be haunted as well.

The kudan can take various forms (although the animal form is the most common) and their power varies according to the person they haunt. If a person's heart is stronger, their kudan's power & abilities are often stronger as well. However, it doesn't matter if one's kudan is strong or weak -- the kudan are generally fond of people and they haunt a person to protect them.
